Do you ever wonder what some of the top professional athletes eat on a daily basis in order to fuel their bodies for athletic training and performance? The NBA playoffs get started this month so what better timing than now to showcase what professional athletes like LeBron James and Stephen Curry are eating to stay healthy. You may not be a professional athlete, but you can defiantly eat like one to stay fit, and healthy.

Proper nutrition is an integral part of professional athlete’s success on the court. We must fuel our bodies right in order for them to work the way we want and need them to. LeBron James follows a diet that is similar to the Paleo way of eating. This diet focuses on a reduction of added sugars, by limiting added sugars to around 150 calories per day for men which is around 9 teaspoons of sugar, and 100 calories per day for women. This diet also focuses on the importance of filling up with nutrient-rich foods like fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber. Consuming foods that are high in fiber can lower your risk of heart disease, and can also improve your gastrointestinal health. Fiber-rich diets will also keep you full longer, which can help to prevent you from overeating. Lastly, LeBron James’ Paleo style diet also focuses on consuming lean proteins. Try to choose chicken breasts that are labeled 90% lean with the skin cut off and eggs, and try plant-based proteins too such as bens, and nuts.

Reigning NBA MVP, Stephen Curry also follows a very nutritious meal plan. Stephen Curry’s wife, Ayesha Curry shares that she feeds her family meals such quinoa salads with grilled chicken, and pasta topped with fresh vegetables. Superfoods such as quinoa are high in protein, low in fat and naturally gluten-free. Eating a diet high in vegetables will provide you with antioxidants, fiber, and phytonutrients that will help to fight off chronic diseases, and even cancer.

So although, you may not be a professional athlete or even extremely active, starting to consume foods such as the ones that LeBron James or Stephen Curry eat daily can help to give your body the nutrition that it needs to fight off inflammation, boost the immune system, and even help with weight loss. Eating like a pro doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming either, with a little planning ahead, and a short grocery list of whole and nutritious foods, you will be on your way to eating like a pro in no time.
